The essential as a principle

For Ernest Hemingway, writing was not about embellishing thought, but about stripping it back. His literature is built on restraint, silence and precision. Every word matters because it has survived the renunciation of many others.

In this sense, Hemingway’s literature shares with good design a clear conviction: the superfluous distracts. Only when form is honest does function become lasting. That same attitude runs through the work of the brands that coexist within the universe of Espacio con Hache.

Writing, like designing, requires knowing what to leave out so that what matters can breathe. This way of understanding the process connects directly with the brands that form part of Espacio con Hache. All of them work from a shared idea: the value of things well made and of the time invested in reaching the essential as the natural outcome of an analytical, restrained way of thinking.

Massimo Copenhagen builds its rugs through proportion and balance. Surfaces, rhythms and textures that bring visual and physical calm. Design grounded in material, in a restrained gesture and in a sobriety that does not need emphasis. Like Ernest Hemingway’s prose, its language is quiet yet firm.

Atbo and Eikund share a deep connection to Scandinavian heritage. Both approach design as continuity: recovering, reinterpreting and projecting into the present pieces born from a deep understanding of craft. Wood, proportion and comfort are combined with a contemporary sensitivity that does not seek nostalgia, but relevance. Design that ages well because it is well conceived from the outset.

Astep understands light as a precise narrative. Its work draws on the memory of contemporary design and integrates it with cutting-edge technology, always with environmental responsibility. Each lamp is a measured decision, where technique and emotion coexist without noise. As with Hemingway, clarity does not diminish depth—it multiplies it.

+Halle represents a cross-disciplinary way of thinking about shared spaces. Its pieces engage in dialogue with architecture and with people, prioritising real use, flexibility and visual lightness. Design intended to accompany rather than impose; to endure over time and through everyday use.

Röshults, working from the outdoors, treats material and fire as central elements of gathering. Steel, heat and function are articulated with precision to create objects that organise life around them. Pieces that need no explanation: they are understood through experience.

Across all these brands, there is a shared attitude: trust in material, respect for process, and an understanding of design as a conscious practice. It is not about reducing for the sake of it, but about arriving at a clear and enduring form. Pieces that integrate naturally into everyday life, that age well and that need no explanation.

Like Ernest Hemingway’s literature, this is design grounded in coherence. In the ability to say much with little. Designs that do not seek immediate impact, but permanence.

Thanks

This website is dedicated to all those people who, in one way or another, have helped this project/dream/desire to begin and take shape.

Special thanks to my wife and my parents for supporting me, to Cristina Escarrà and Alfonso Pérez Rosales for generously sharing with me their experience as agents, to those clients who, in one way or another, have given me wise advice, to the brands that have placed their trust in me, and to Gonzalo, my godfather, who, with his always generous help, and guiding me throughout this process, is largely to blame for the fact that I can boast of being an “entrepreneur”.

Thanks also to Nuria, Rafa and Guillermo, who, to help me in the hard beginnings of any entrepreneurial activity, have opened the doors of their home, let me share with them a bit of their personal lives when I pass through their cities of residence, and give me free accommodation.

Thanks to all!
