Model 262 by Astep. New scenarios for a simple light bulb.

Apr, 2026 • 2 Min. Read — General

Designed by Gino Sarfatti in 1971 and reissued by Astep in 2024, Model 262 is a manifesto of light in its purest form. The lamp begins with a radically simple idea: to give the light bulb a stage.

The design stems from a precise observation of light and its potential to transform space. The bulb becomes both starting point and protagonist, while the reflector, available in stainless steel or white finish, surrounds it with the elegance of something that understands its role is not to compete, but to amplify. Light is diffused evenly and delicately, creating atmospheres without excess, revealing Sarfatti’s intention to seek essence over form.

Simplicity that endures.

Every component of Model 262 responds to a logic of precision and honesty. The engineering, as present as it is invisible, allows the piece to function both individually and in grouped compositions, generating rhythm and cadence across walls or ceilings. Within its minimalist structure, each element fulfils a clear function, from the support to the angle of reflection, consolidating a design where matter steps back so that light can take its place.

Sarfatti understood light as a material in itself. With Model 262, the bulb becomes an actor, and space a stage. Its presence does not impose; it accompanies, defines, and transforms. A reminder that the essential needs neither words nor ornament—it is perceived and felt.

Innovation through reduction.

In 1971, this piece was already revolutionary. At a time when complexity dominated design, Model 262 embraced clarity and honesty, anticipating a contemporary sensibility that remains relevant today. The lamp invites us to observe light itself, its behaviour, its character, and its ability to shape spatial perception.

Today, Astep’s reissue allows Sarfatti’s work to be rediscovered, not as a collector’s object, but as a lighting experience that engages with any interior. Every wall and ceiling becomes a canvas where light acts with freedom, precision, and restrained elegance.

Light that speaks for itself.

Model 262 requires no explanation. Its strength lies in synthesis: reduction to the essential, balance between function and form, and absolute respect for the quality of light. It is an exercise in clarity that transforms design into a silent narrative, where matter recedes to make way for the emotion of light in its purest state.

This website is dedicated to all those people who, in one way or another, have helped this project/dream/desire to begin and take shape.

Special thanks to my wife and my parents for supporting me, to Cristina Escarrà and Alfonso Pérez Rosales for generously sharing with me their experience as agents, to those clients who, in one way or another, have given me wise advice, to the brands that have placed their trust in me, and to Gonzalo, my godfather, who, with his always generous help, and guiding me throughout this process, is largely to blame for the fact that I can boast of being an “entrepreneur”.

Thanks also to Nuria, Rafa and Guillermo, who, to help me in the hard beginnings of any entrepreneurial activity, have opened the doors of their home, let me share with them a bit of their personal lives when I pass through their cities of residence, and give me free accommodation.

Thanks to all!
