Model 2109 by Astep. The luminous poetry of Gino Sarfatti.

Gino Sarfatti’s fascination with the sky and the light of the moon materialized in Le Sfere, one of his most emblematic collections. Since 1959, this lighting system has been based on a pure and essential gesture: a blown opaline glass sphere, held by a metal ring that embraces it with discretion and precision. From this union emerges a constructive principle as simple as it is intriguing, capable of multiplying into diverse configurations and scales.

A luminous sculpture in motion.
Model 2109 represents the culmination of this concept. In its most iconic version, it brings together twenty-four spheres, each 14 cm in diameter, arranged in a circular structure of lacquered steel (available in black or champagne), elevating the piece to the category of luminous sculpture. There are also other variations: a luminaire with twelve or sixteen spheres of 14 cm, or a version with sixteen spheres of 20 cm, making the lamp even more striking. In all cases, the spheres can be oriented upwards or downwards, offering direct or indirect light and creating atmospheres reminiscent of lunar glow.

Architecture and luminous landscape.
Model 2109 has been featured in major architectural projects, such as Carlo Mollino’s Teatro Regio in Turin, where Sarfatti’s spheres unfold in luminous cascades and columns that transform the space into a poetic stage. Here lies not only the ingenuity of the system, but also its ability to adapt and generate compositions with an almost landscape-like character.

Technique and poetry in balance.
Model 2109 expresses Sarfatti’s vision: the certainty that light can be functional and, at the same time, deeply evocative. Its design preserves the essence of an idea of timeless illumination.
