Melt by Tom Dixon. Light in constant transformation.

Melt seems to capture a moment of matter in transformation and motion. Its surface reflects the surrounding space when switched off, yet reveals an entirely different depth when illuminated, as if the light were emerging from within the material itself. Its appearance evolves with its environment, the light, and the angle from which it is viewed.

Designed by Tom Dixon in 2015, the collection was born from a fascination with the unpredictable beauty of materials in a molten state. Melted glass, lava and incandescent metal inspire an irregular form that appears to freeze a moment suspended between the solid and the liquid.

A piece that never appears the same twice.

Crafted from blow-moulded polycarbonate and enhanced through a sophisticated vacuum metallisation process, Melt combines technological innovation with formal experimentation to create a luminaire of striking sculptural character.

Each finish (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Smoke, Copper, Nickel or Opalescent)alters the perception of the object. Reflections shift, the depth of the surface changes, and the way light interacts with the surrounding space evolves, allowing the same family of luminaires to offer entirely different visual experiences. Each version creates its own atmosphere.

Sculpting space with light.

Melt reveals its full personality both in the restrained presence of a single globe and in the theatrical impact of large suspended compositions. The different sizes of its shades make it possible to play with rhythm, height and scale, creating arrangements that engage with architecture, from the quiet presence of a single pendant to dramatic contemporary chandeliers that become the focal point of any space.

The collection includes pendants, wall lights, table lamps and floor lamps. The latter are available either on a conical base with a strong sculptural presence or on a lightweight three-legged structure that supports even the most spectacular compositions with apparent ease, transforming the chandelier into a freestanding piece capable of inhabiting a space with complete freedom.

A theatrical dialogue.

Its presence is defined not only by its irregular form, but also by the relationship it establishes with the architecture and environment around it. Reflections visually expand the space, diffused light softens surrounding volumes, and projected shadows create shifting patterns across walls and floors, transforming the atmosphere far beyond the limits of the object itself.

Perhaps this is the true nature of Melt. A material that seems to remain in a state of perpetual fusion, where irregular forms, reflections and light come together to create an almost hypnotic experience. Like the molten matter that inspired it, it never remains the same. Every reflection, every moment of the day and every setting reveal a different version of the same luminaire.
