SpongeRo! by Pott Project. It all starts with the material.

The starting point for SpongeRo! is clay. Its possibilities as a material, its different tones, and the way it interacts with light. Miguel Ángel García Belmonte takes a material deeply rooted in the pottery tradition and moves it into a different territory, where ceramics are no longer simply the support for a light fixture, but become part of the light experience itself.

Handcrafted in southeastern Spain, SpongeRo! lamps combine design precision with the subtle variations inherent to craftsmanship. Each piece retains the marks of a process in which the material takes centre stage.

The colour comes from the clay.

One of SpongeRo!’s defining characteristics is its finish. The colour belongs to the clay itself. No glazes or added pigments cover the surface, allowing each tone to maintain a direct relationship with the material and its manufacturing process.

White, Dune, Red and Choco reveal different shades and nuances of the clay. Each one gives the lamp a different character and also changes the way the surface receives the light.

A technique that transforms the light.

The perforated band runs across the body of SpongeRo! and becomes one of the elements that defines its identity. Its development stems from a technique devised by Miguel Ángel García Belmonte and his team, allowing the ceramic to be worked by creating small perforations directly into the piece.

When the lamp is switched on, the light finds these small openings and passes through the surface. The perforations act as a filter, casting shadows onto the surrounding space and making the piece change according to the intensity of the light and the angle from which it is viewed.

The technique also gives the ceramic an additional visual dimension. The material allows the light to pass through, making it part of the form itself.

A large family.

SpongeRo! is available in different formats, bringing this language to a variety of ways of lighting a space. The collection includes floor, table, wall, ceiling and pendant lamps.

Depending on the category, the collection is available in three diameters: 20, 30 and 40 cm. This variety allows the scale of SpongeRo! to be adapted to the characteristics of each space, from more discreet solutions to larger, more prominent compositions.

The beginning of Sponge.

SpongeRo! began a line of research that continued throughout the rest of the Sponge family. Starting from the same relationship between clay, perforation and light, Miguel Ángel García Belmonte explores different ways of working with ceramics and incorporating them into lighting.

That is why SpongeRo! holds a special place within the collection. It is the first step in a language that finds its origin in material and its way forward through experimentation.
