Model 2050 by Astep. A Classic, rethought.

Sep, 2026 • 1 Min. Read — General

In 1963, Franco Albini and Franca Helg designed Model 2050 with the same formal clarity that characterises much of their work. More than sixty years later, Astep brings the luminaire back to life, introducing a new generation of materials that extends that spirit of experimentation.

An icon from 1963.

Model 2050 retains the simplicity and balance that defined the original design. The diffuser gently envelops the light, while the hand-blown opal glass globe distributes a warm and even illumination.

The proportions remain unchanged, preserving the timeless presence that has defined the piece since its creation.

Looking to the future through material.

The main innovation in this reissue lies in its outer body, made from Green Cast, a 100% recycled and recyclable methacrylate. Available in Smoke and Pearl finishes, it surrounds an inner diffuser made from hand-blown opal glass, designed to distribute the light evenly.

Its brushed finish recaptures the elegance of the original design without altering its optical qualities, demonstrating that innovation can also mean rethinking the materials from which objects are made.

Continuing the same research.

With Model 2050, Astep continues to revive the legacy of some of the great masters of Italian lighting, keeping alive the spirit of research that characterised designers such as Franco Albini, Franca Helg and Gino Sarfatti.

The reissue preserves the essence of the original design while extending its journey through materials capable of responding to contemporary needs without compromising the clarity of its form.

the enduring relevance of a good idea.

Model 2050 does not need to reinterpret its language to remain contemporary. The precision of its proportions, the quality of its light and the honesty of its materials are still enough.

Thanks

This website is dedicated to all those people who, in one way or another, have helped this project/dream/desire to begin and take shape.

Special thanks to my wife and my parents for supporting me, to Cristina Escarrà and Alfonso Pérez Rosales for generously sharing with me their experience as agents, to those clients who, in one way or another, have given me wise advice, to the brands that have placed their trust in me, and to Gonzalo, my godfather, who, with his always generous help, and guiding me throughout this process, is largely to blame for the fact that I can boast of being an “entrepreneur”.

Thanks also to Nuria, Rafa and Guillermo, who, to help me in the hard beginnings of any entrepreneurial activity, have opened the doors of their home, let me share with them a bit of their personal lives when I pass through their cities of residence, and give me free accommodation.

Thanks to all!
