Born in 1927 and raised in the Bahamas in a context marked by poverty and inequality, Sidney Poitier learned from a very young age to confront the limits imposed by his racial background. That difficult beginning did not stop him. On the contrary, it strengthened a determination that led him to pursue his vocation with deep conviction.

Throughout his career, he dismantled many of the racial barriers that defined the industry. He embraced that role with responsibility, especially at a time when the civil rights movement was transforming American society.
