TERRA: a tribute to artisans in contemporary lighting

May, 2023 • 2 Min. Read

In a world where mass production often eclipses traditional artisanry, the Terra de Pott lamp collection emerges as an elegant bridge between the past and the present, celebrating the nobility of clay and the expertise of potters.

The essence of roots

Terra is not only a lamp; it is an ode to raw materials in their purest state. Its design is based on a fundamental principle: honoring clay as a material and its elemental components, earth and water. This philosophy translates into a piece that, although contemporary in its function, maintains a deep connection with millenary craft traditions.

What makes Terra unique is its ability to inhabit two worlds: traditional artisanry and modern industrial production. This balance is not accidental; it represents a conscious quest to preserve and enhance the ancestral knowledge of potters while embracing the possibilities of contemporary manufacturing.

The anatomy of light

The lamp is composed of three distinct modules: a large head and two smaller pieces that form the foot. This modularity is not merely functional; it serves as a canvas for a rich palette of six earthy tones and three distinct textures, each with its own story to tell.

Terra's colors are a journey through the spectrum of the earth, as each shade has been carefully selected to evoke matter in its natural state, creating a visual dialogue with our most primitive roots.

Storytelling textures

The first texture, Sand, slightly rough, reminds us of matter in its purest state. In the light, it creates a velvet effect that plays with shadows and enhances its organic nature.

The second texture, Carve, composed of small rectangular marks, is a direct homage to manual labor. Cadamarca, originally sculpted by hand and then reproduced in mold, conveys its artisanal mastery.

The third texture, Lines, with its fine lines of irregular rhythm, represents the fusion of craft and technology. Sculpted first by hand and then reproduced by 3D printing, it embraces light in a fluid and graphic way.

A combination game

Pott's Terra lamp collection invites the user to become a co-creator. The possibility of combining colors and textures allows for unique customization, as each combination reflects different expressions, from subtle and abstract to dramatic and expressive contrasts.

Despite its deep connection to tradition, Terra is designed with contemporary rituals in mind. Its archetypal and timeless form makes it a perfect companion for modern living, providing not only illumination but also a presence that enriches any space.

Beyond lighting

Terra transcends its function as a lamp to become a piece that reminds us of our connection to the earth and artisanal traditions. In a world increasingly digital and disconnected from the material, it invites us to reconnect with the basic materiality and beauty of the handmade.

This lamp is not just an object of illumination; it is a manifesto of the possibility of combining tradition and innovation, artisanry and technology, functionality and artistic expression. In each of its variations, Terra reminds us that true innovation does not always mean abandoning our roots, but finding new ways to celebrate them.

This website is dedicated to all those people who, in one way or another, have helped this project/dream/desire to begin and take shape.

Special thanks to my wife and my parents for supporting me, to Cristina Escarrà and Alfonso Pérez Rosales for generously sharing with me their experience as agents, to those clients who, in one way or another, have given me wise advice, to the brands that have placed their trust in me, and to Gonzalo, my godfather, who, with his always generous help, and guiding me throughout this process, is largely to blame for the fact that I can boast of being an “entrepreneur”.

Thanks also to Nuria, Rafa and Guillermo, who, to help me in the hard beginnings of any entrepreneurial activity, have opened the doors of their home, let me share with them a bit of their personal lives when I pass through their cities of residence, and give me free accommodation.

Thanks to all!
