Model 2065 by Astep: Lightness as legacy
Designed by Gino Sarfatti in 1950, Model 2065 is a luminaire that changed the rules of the game. A simple gesture, two elliptical discs that seem to float in balance, born from a revolutionary intuition: to explore new materials in order to free light from its weight.
Sarfatti, a true pioneer of Italian design, experimented for the first time with methacrylate instead of glass. He was looking for a solution that was lighter, more durable, more daring. The result was a lamp that not only illuminated with delicacy, but also spoke of the future.
Astep brings this iconic piece back with a contemporary and conscious lens. The form remains faithful to the original design, but the material evolves: the diffusers are now made of Green Cast®️, a 100% recycled and recyclable methacrylate, developed and patented in Italy. A material that preserves the same aesthetic and functional qualities of the original, but with minimal environmental impact.
Here, innovation is not only formal or technological. It is also ethical. It reflects a way of approaching design where past and present meet: to inherit is not to copy, it is to reinterpret.
Model 2065 embodies this vision. Its light, suspended presence engages with the space without imposing. It is elegant, silent, almost poetic. Whether in its ceiling version or the reissued wall model, this lamp retains the power of the essential and the intelligence of something designed to last.
With this contemporary reinterpretation, Astep not only celebrates Gino Sarfatti, the master who saw technique as a vehicle for emotion, but also reaffirms its commitment to a design that evolves without abandoning its history.
